This move of Meta clearly shows that Zuckerberg does not want to be left behind in the AI race at any cost. He considers it not just a technological change but a future revolution.
In the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI), now it is not just a war of technology but of talent. Meta (formerly Facebook) CEO Mark Zuckerberg is preparing to take the lead in this race. It is reported that Meta has hired a veteran AI researcher from Apple, Ruoming Pang, for a hefty package of $200 million i.e. about Rs 1600 crore.
This decision has come when some time ago, Meta had included OpenAI's Trapit Bansal in its team by offering him about Rs 800 crore. Now Meta is on a mission of talent hunt, where packages ranging from Rs 800 to Rs 1600 crore are being offered to top AI experts from companies like Apple, OpenAI, Google DeepMind and Anthropic.
Why is Meta spending so much money?
The aim of Meta is to create a Superintelligence Lab, which is not limited to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) but goes far beyond it. AGI means AI that can think like humans, but Meta wants to go beyond this and create Superintelligent AI. A system that is smarter than humans in every field.
That's why Meta is now engaged in bringing the world's most capable AI minds under one roof. This lab will directly compete with companies like OpenAI and Google DeepMind.
This investment is more than salary
These huge packages being given by Meta are not just salary. These include:
Signing bonus
Company shares (equity)
Performance bonus
The amount of these packages is even surpassing the CEO level salary of the technology industry.
Why is Superintelligence Lab necessary?
Mark Zuckerberg has made it clear that AI is now Meta's priority number 1. Through Superintelligence Lab, Meta's goal is:
To create AI that is faster and smarter than humans
To use AI in medical, science, economy, and creative industries
To create the world's strongest AI team
This lab is being created to take Meta to the forefront of the world of AI. And this shows that now the battle of AI has become a battle of talent, not technology.
