Volkswagen is preparing staff for temporary plant closures, German daily Bild reported on Wednesday, referring to an internal letter from company management warning staff about potential disruptions.
The paper said it had access to the letter, in which VW was preparing employees for a temporary closure of plants.
According to Bild, the letter stated that current production had not yet been impacted by chip shortages but cautioned that disruptions could occur given the evolving situation.
Volkswagen did not immediately reply to an emailed request for comment.
The company said on Tuesday it was preparing to pause production of two key models but denied any connection with a stand-off over chipmaker Nexperia putting pressure on supply chains.
