Mumbai: To ensure that private security guards receive the legally mandated benefits, the Maharashtra government will soon initiate a district-wise inspection campaign, announced Labour Minister Adv. Aakash Fundkar during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly.
He emphasized that all establishments are obligated to provide benefits to private security personnel under the Maharashtra Private Security Guards (Regulation of Employment and Welfare) Act, 1981, and other applicable labor laws.
However, several complaints have surfaced regarding non-registered establishments failing to provide these benefits, particularly those not registered with the Security Guard Board.
The issue was raised by MLA Jitendra Awhad, with active participation in the discussion by legislators Kishore Jorgewar, Mahesh Shinde, Prashant Bamb, and Sulabha Gaikwad.
In his response, Minister Fundkar stated that the Labour Department's new organizational structure has been approved, and recruitment for the same will begin shortly. He clarified that establishments are required to register under labor laws and with the Security Guard Boards.
However, many housing societies and similar entities are currently not registered with the boards, resulting in the denial of statutory rights to their security personnel.
“To address this, immediate inspections will be carried out in such housing societies and unregistered entities to ensure that private security guards are not denied their rightful benefits,” said Minister Fundkar.
