Lucknow: In a significant scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued a government order granting a 1% stamp duty exemption for properties purchased in a woman's name, up to a value of ₹1 crore. This decision, which caps the maximum exemption at ₹10 lakh, is expected to particularly benefit women in Western Uttar Pradesh.
Previously, this exemption in Uttar Pradesh was only applicable to properties valued up to ₹10 lakh, with a maximum benefit of ₹10,000.
The government's recent cabinet approval and subsequent government order now extend this benefit significantly. This means that if a property (such as a house or land) worth up to `1 crore is purchased in a woman's name, a 1% stamp duty discount will be applied, translating to a potential saving of up to ₹1 lakh.
Announcing the decision earlier, State Labor Minister Anil Rajbhar stated that this move will empower middle-class women by helping them become property owners. This not only boosts their confidence but also makes them more economically capable and respected in society. He emphasized that the exemption will further strengthen the "Mission Shakti" program, which aims to make women self-reliant and empowered.
