'Pathetic' Man Utd slammed as Bruno Fernandes comes under scrutiny

Send Push

Harry Redknapp has labelled Manchester United as pathetic and has concerns over Ruben Amorim's position should they fall to Burnley this weekend. The former Spurs and Portsmouth boss expects United to come away with three points against the Clarets but has reservations about what the side have shown so far.

The Red Devils have yet to win a game so far this season after losing to Arsenal, drawing with Fulham and crashing out of the Carabao Cup against League Two side Grimsby. Amorim's role has quickly come under scrutiny in the aftermath of his interviews following United's latest loss.

The team will hope to get their season underway in earnest against Burnley at Old Trafford this weekend. Scott Parker's side recorded their first win of the season against Sunderland last weekend to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on the opening day of the season.

Redknapp reckons it will be a close affair between the Lancashire sides and that Bruno Fernandes will be the player to watch. Though, he is less sure whether that will be for the right reasons.

"Wow, what a massive game this is," Redknapp told BetVictor. "I couldn’t believe what I was watching the other night at Grimsby, United were pathetic.

"I actually feel sorry for Amorim, it looked like some of those lads just downed tools. I worry for him if they lose this one as well.

"That was a big win for Burnley last week. Even at this early stage, it’s important for a newly promoted side to get off the board with a win. This could be a nervy day at Old Trafford but I do think United will narrowly get the win.

"One to watch- Bruno Fernandes had a strange game at Fulham last week. Rightly or sometimes wrongly, he’s always one to watch!"

Amorim was asked whether he felt someone else should be in the United dugout ahead of this weekend. The 40-year-old is simply happy to have an opportunity to get over his team's latest defeat.

“I felt that after the game, I don’t feel that now," he said. "It’s a little bit like that. I think that’s the hardest part of the defeat - sometimes it’s not the result, it’s the way we lost or drew that game.

"That is the thing that’s hard to accept, because we can do better. It’s the small things: recovery positions, fight for the ball, running, all these small things. Sometimes, we dropped a little bit the level. The good thing is that we now have the next game to put that level up and that is the focus.”
