Fall for the latest Con trick.
CONSOLIDATION (3.00) might appear to be out of form heading into Newbury’s TPT Fire Handicap but his form figures from his last two starts are misleading.
He didn’t see much daylight when he needed it in a hot Goodwood handicap two weeks ago, having earlier run well when third home of the unfavoured far-side group in the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot.
His comeback victory at Goodwood in May had marked him down as a smart prospect with the potential to make the jump into group races.
That was merely an extension of his smart juvenile form and it’s no real fault of his own that he hasn’t be able to continue his progress.
This race should pan out much better for Ralph Beckett’s runner. Have 2pts each-way at 13-2. Sky Bet is paying out on four places.

MARVELMAN (3.35) seems to have been completely overlooked in the Group 2 Visit Malta Hungerford Stakes.
He chased home subsequent Irish 2000 Guineas runner-up Cosmic Year in a Newmarket Listed race in May.
Harry Charlton’s three-year-old went off second favourite for the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot but he had little chance from his high draw in a race dominated by those that raced on the far side.
The form of his third in a Chester Listed contest last month worked out well and he’s got a much better chance than his odds of 20-1 suggests. Have 1pt each-way.
It’s Ripon’s big day of the year and SUPREME KING (3.20) looks to have a decent shout in the William Hill/MND Association Great St Wilifrid Handicap.
He was first home of the far-side group when fifth in the consolation race on this card 12 months ago and he seems to have been lined up for this prize by his shrewd trainer Dave Evans. His high stall should mean he gets a decent pace to aim at on the stands’ side. Have 1pt each-way at 10-1.
In the William Hill Supporting MND Silver Cup for horses that didn’t make the cut for the feature race, HECTIC (2.45) is the one to be on.
He won over this course and distance in June and he’s had a break since racing on the wrong side at Hamilton in June. Have 1pt each-way at 16-1. Sky Bet is gojng six places in both Ripon contests.
