The Facebook Like button is one of the most recognizable symbols on social media — a small blue thumbs-up that has shaped how people express appreciation online. But soon, it will be gone from a big part of the internet. Meta has officially announced that it will retire the Facebook Like and Comment buttons from external websites in the coming months.
When Will the Like and Comment Buttons Disappear?According to Meta, the Facebook Like and Comment buttons will stop appearing on external websites starting February 10, 2026. This means that blogs, news portals, and shopping websites that currently feature embedded Facebook posts will no longer display these buttons.
So, if you’ve ever read a blog or news article that had a Facebook Like button at the bottom — allowing you to “like” it directly without opening Facebook — that feature will disappear after this date.
Why Is Meta Removing These Buttons?Meta says the decision is part of an effort to modernize and simplify developer tools. These social plugins were first introduced nearly a decade ago, but their usage has declined significantly over time. Now, the company wants to focus on newer, more relevant tools and technologies instead.
However, users don’t need to worry about losing these features entirely. The Like and Comment buttons will still be available as usual on the Facebook app and official website.
What Happens to Existing Sites? For websites that currently use these plugins, the buttons will simply disappear automatically after February 10, 2026. There won’t be any crashes or error messages — the embedded Facebook sections will just appear without the Like and Comment options.
This marks the end of an era for one of the most iconic social media features ever created — a button that changed the way people interacted online for more than a decade.
