The Delhi Police Crime Branch has nabbed a dreaded serial killer, Ajay Lamba, from the India Gate area after a decade-long manhunt. Lamba, the mastermind of a gang responsible for the cold-blooded murder of multiple cab drivers, had been evading arrest by hiding in Nepal for over 10 years.
Chilling Modus Operandi: Book, Kill, Dump, Sell
Ajay Lamba and his accomplices would book cabs under false pretenses, drug or strangle the drivers in the remote hill regions of Uttarakhand, and then throw the bodies into deep gorges in areas like Almora, Haldwani, and Udham Singh Nagar. After the killings, the gang would smuggle the vehicles across the border and sell them in Nepal, splitting the profits.
Previous Arrests and Criminal Background
Two of Lamba’s accomplices—Dhirendra and Dilip Pandey—are already serving life sentences for similar crimes. Another member, Dheeraj, remains on the run. The police believe the gang could be linked to the disappearance of several other cab drivers over the years, with four murders confirmed so far.
Ajay Lamba, who once served jail time in Delhi for a drug case and in Odisha for a major robbery, had been living under the radar in Nepal where he married a local woman. His arrest was finally made possible by a special Crime Branch team from RK Puram.
Wider Investigation Underway
Police have now launched a deeper probe to determine whether the gang was involved in a larger series of unsolved murders. Questioning of Ajay Lamba is underway, with investigators trying to uncover the full extent of his criminal network and activities over the past two decades.
