Diego Simeone flew off the handle and confronted a Liverpool fan following Virgil van Dijk's dramatic winner against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night. The Reds had been 2-0 up on opening night in the Champions League, with goals from Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah giving Liverpool daylight after just six minutes.
It looked as if the Premier League champions would run away with the game, but Marcos Llorente dragged the Spanish side back into the contest on the brink of half-time. Llorente netted for a second time midway through the second half to draw Atletico level, only for Van Dijk to nod home the winner in added time.
But as the wild celebrations were unfolding inside Anfield, the Atletico manager found himself face-to-face with a Liverpool supporter. The reason for Simeone flying off the rails isn't exactly known, but plenty of Liverpool fans could be seen goading the Argentine tactician.
The referee was quick to head over to the touchline, before brandishing Simeone a red card. He had already been booked earlier in the contest for mouthing off to the referee after disagreeing with one of the official's decisions.
