Emma Raducanu has tipped people off about a great artist for 'heartbreak songs', adding they are the one to turn to if you are ever 'going through it'. The Wimbledon star has never publicly announced a relationship, although romance rumours have swirled around her and Carlos Alcaraz since they began spending more time together earlier this summer.
Raducanu was watched by the singer Olivia Rodrigo from the Royal Box during her second-round win over Marketa Vondrousova on Wednesday. That victory set up a mouth-watering third-round meeting with world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, before which Raducanu spoke to the BBC about her tournament so far.
When asked whether she was aware of Rodrigo watching on, she said: "No. She's got some great heartbreak songs. If you're ever going through it, she's the one [laughs]. I wouldn't know though! Of course not."
Even BBC host Clare Balding was a tad suspicious about Raducanu backtracking on her 'heartbreak' comment, saying: "I think she suddenly thought, have I given something away there?!"
Raducanu was banned from having a romantic partner growing up. She told The Times: "My parents were very much against it as it interfered with training. When I was younger I wasn't even allowed to hang out with my girl friends.
"A lot of the time I was very resentful. But it made me very confident and comfortable in my own company, which is also a big strength."
In 2023, Raducanu was romantically linked with Carlo Agostinelli, the son of a billionaire who was snapped with the tennis star months before being blocked by her on social media.
More recently, Raducanu has been the subject of relationship rumours with Benjamin Heynold. The pair met when they were junior tennis players and Heynold was seen courtside supporting the 22-year-old at Queen's, and now at Wimbledon.
There was also a barrage of noise around Raducanu and men's world No.2 Alcaraz after they announced they would form a mixed doubles pairing at the US Open later this year.
Raducanu insists they are 'just friends' but she has not outright dismissed the fan frenzy forming online. "I'm glad the internet is having fun and we're providing some entertainment for everyone," she said.
Along with her usual coaching team, Raducanu has been cheered on by a group of friends at Wimbledon as she aims to better the fourth-round runs she managed in 2021 and 2024.
