During an interview, Vanessa Bryant poured her heart out while talking about the sudden absence of her husband and daughter Gianna from her life.

In a 2022 interview with CBS News, Vanessa Bryant revealed she experienced panic attacks and anxiety. The distress was triggered by photos of the 2020 helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and their daughter Gianna. Vanessa recalled coming across a Los Angeles Times report regarding helicopter crash’s graphic pictures, when she at home with her family feeding her 7-month daughter Capri. She said,
"I just remember not wanting to react cause the girls were in the room. I said, 'I can't do this.... and I bolted out of the house and I ran to the side of the house so the girls couldn't see me. I wanted to run... down the block and just scream. I can't escape my body. I can't escape what I feel."
According to her, it was very disturbing when she came across the report. Vanessa Bryant and Chris Chester, who lost his wife and daughter in the crash, filed a federal civil lawsuit against Los Angeles County. They accused Los Angeles County of invading their privacy and causing emotional distress by failing to stop the spread of crash photos. Witnesses said the images showed not only the helicopter wreckage but also the victims’ mangled bodies.
