Security around US President Donald Trump was heightened Thursday following the shocking killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.
The 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder was shot by a gunman firing from a rooftop while speaking on campus, a killing described by the governor as a “political assassination” that stunned Washington and the conservative movement.

In response to the incident, security measures were increased around Trump’s public events. A Pentagon ceremony marking the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks was moved from its traditional location outside the building walls to an internal courtyard.
Additional security was also implemented for Trump’s visit to Yankee Stadium later Thursday evening in New York, where he planned to watch a game against the Detroit Tigers.
Asked whether he was concerned about his security following yesterday’s assassination, Trump said, “not really," reported CNN.
Authorities have urged students and residents to remain vigilant and appealed for information as the investigation into the Utah shooting continues.
Trump and Vice President JD Vance paid tribute to Kirk, calling him a friend, ally, and a leading voice for youth conservatism.
Trump announced he will be awarding Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, while Vice President Vance and his wife, Usha, were scheduled to visit Kirk’s family in Salt Lake City.
